The Story of Alanya Silk
After the establishment of the Silkworm School in Antalya in 1928, the importance of silkworm breeding increased in the surrounding districts and it was decided to open silkworm classes in Alanya. It started education with a student staff of 136 students, including 35 female and 101 male students. 75 students graduated from this school and students who successfully completed the education process were awarded the "Silkworm Breeding School diploma". In Alanya, which was the silk fabric weaving center of the Seljuk palaces during the period when Alanya was under the rule of the Anatolian Seljuk State, almost every house had a weaving loom until 50 years ago, and fabrics and handkerchiefs were sewn on these looms.

What is a silkworm?
Silkworm is an insect known as Bombyx Mori in Latin. Silkworm is an insect with butterfly eggs. It lays its eggs on the leaves of the mulberry tree. In this way they die after three or four days. Mulberry leaves, which are quite common in fresh mulberry leaves, appear frequently and as hairy larvae. The length of silkworms varies between 7 and 8 meters. As it grows and matures, the silkworm's colors lighten and its existing hairs are also shed.
Silkworm is an insect with soft hair and plump body. They are mostly in the form of light cream color. Silkworms, which can be fed as pets, can lay 200 to 300 eggs. Silkworms are the caterpillars of the butterfly.

Where and How Long Does the Silkworm Live?
Silkworm is an insect that lives mostly on mulberry leaves. At the same time, silkworm breeding is common in many places in our country. The average lifespan of silkworms is two months. Some species may live more or less. Today, sericulture in Turkey is carried out intensively in Diyarbakir, Bursa, Bilecik, Eskisehir, Sakarya and Antalya provinces.
